Sharing is caring!

Here’s a simple thought for instructing space and perimeter that your college students will love!

Take them exterior (however first, make it clear that it’s not recess time!).

Have them observe behind you in a line as you stroll across the fringe of the basketball court docket (or playground, or blacktop, or no matter you might have).  Yell out so everybody can hear “This is the PERIMETER of the basketball court!”

Have everybody discover a place contained in the basketball court docket.  Yell out, “This is the AREA of the basketball court!”

Have your college students stroll across the perimeter of different shapes just like the kindergarten playground, the grass space, a tether ball court docket, and so forth.

Have them stand within the space of different shapes.

Later, when somebody says, “What’s perimeter, again?”  you possibly can say, “Remember when we went outside and walked around shapes?”

“Oooohhh yeah!  Perimeter is the length all around the outside of a shape.”
