Pray for a Miracle

 John 14:13-14

And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father.  You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.

Have the children to come to the front of the church.

Ask the children what they think a miracle is? You will get many answers.

Discuss

There are all sorts of miracles from God. He sends them to us all the time. Some are big and some small. Some miracles we ask for, and some God sends to us without asking because he loves us.

One definition of a miracle is any gift from God.

Tell the children that today we are going to talk about asking God for a blessing through prayer.  When we receive that blessing we will consider it a small miracle created by God to to answer our prayer.

First, we must understand how to ask God for a miracle.  A good way to start is to not be like the Pharisees (or people in the time of Jesus who thought they were real important). In Matthew 12:38 the Pharisees do not ask Jesus for a miracle but tell Jesus to give them one. We do not want to be like the Pharisees, we want to
ask and then give praise. Use the words; please, Your will, thank you for hearing my prayer, thank you for being my friend. When we ask God for a miracle and do not demand one He will be more than willing to help us.

What type of miracles to ask for?
We can ask God to help someone feel better.
Ask for help in school studies.
Help to make us happy when we are sad.
Help and comfort when we are scared.
The list is endless.

We must be very careful to thank God for His help and to say that very often. The more you pray the more miracles. The more thanks you give God for the miracles the closer you will become to him. The closer you become to him the more you will pray. The more you pray the more miracles you will receive. Tell the children that you guess God had this miracle stuff figured out just about right and now they do also.

Ask the children to think of something that is very important to them that they would like to ask God about or to ask him for. Then tell the students
that youu are going to say a prayer to ask for a miracle and you want the children to silently fill in their thought when you say. Then tell the children to be on the look out for their miracle!

Dear God:
I thank you for being there for me. I would like to visit with you about something special {      } Thank you for hearing my prayer. If you could help with this I would appreciate it. Your will be done. Amen
